GAIA Marine is integrating compact uncrewed surface vessels into its nearshore survey toolkit to improve safety, access, efficiency and data quality in shallow and constrained marine environments.
Shallow margins, seawall toes, jetties, berth pockets, causeways, breakwaters and nearshore infrastructure corridors are often difficult to survey using conventional vessels. Draft limits, manoeuvrability, propeller wash, access restrictions and the risk of working close to fixed assets can all affect safety, efficiency and data quality.
Compact USVs help reduce these constraints. They can operate in shallower water, work closer to infrastructure and support more repeatable survey lines, while reducing unnecessary exposure of personnel and equipment.
Their value is also in flexibility. Depending on the scope, USV platforms can support multibeam and single-beam echosounders, side-scan sonar, cameras, LiDAR, water-quality sensors, acoustic recorders and current-profiling systems.
For clients, the benefit is clear: safer fieldwork, better access, more efficient survey execution and clearer data from locations that are often difficult, inefficient or higher risk to survey using traditional methods.
