The project was undertaken following severe coastal weather conditions, with the client requiring high-resolution hydrographic data across selected priority areas near coastal and marine infrastructure.
      

GAIA Marine was engaged to survey six nominated shallow-water and infrastructure-adjacent areas, including seawall toes, shallow margins, jetty approaches, causeway edges and selected seabed areas where bathymetric information was required to support engineering and asset-management review. Field activities were completed over a focused 4–6 May 2026 survey window.

 GAIA delivered the survey using a compact vessel-based multibeam configuration, with a pole-mounted MBES system supported by GNSS positioning, motion and heading sensors, Qinsy acquisition, Qimera processing, sound velocity profiling, tide gauges and barometric correction. This setup provided a controlled shallow-water survey platform suitable for active port conditions, where vessel manoeuvrability, tidal access, infrastructure proximity and real-time QA/QC were critical to achieving useful coverage.

The final dataset included bathymetric surfaces, processed point data, contours, spot-depth charts, shaded-relief outputs, GIS-compatible spatial datasets and a technical report. This provided a practical hydrographic evidence base for engineering review, asset-management interpretation and future bathymetric comparison.

This project demonstrates GAIA Marine’s ability to deliver rapid, focused hydrographic survey support in operational port environments. The value was not simply in collecting depth data; it was in creating a repeatable, quality-controlled baseline that could be used to assess seabed condition, identify potential features of interest, inform maintenance planning and support future change detection after storm, cyclone or operational events.
